This thread is for lessons we learn at the University Project either in sessions or talks by the sifu.
Last week i met all the apprentices during our CEO's birthday party. I spoke with them from 6.30 pm till 8pm. So what do u think u learnt from there? |

What i learnt?? Firstly i learnt the way how to go to In-Fusion off .
It take about 1/2 hr i think to get there after asking someone. Then, i get to know a few of staff there,CEO and met the apprentices for the 1st time even though i feel nervous n shy at the beginning. During the birthday party, i get some info about the company and their planning from CEO speech.
During the meeting among the apprentices, i can know who're Mr.Red1, Mr.Gan and Mr.Shaiful and another one i did't have chances to know him. From this meeting i learnt so many things like about punctual time, new culture of working in IT field, throw out siswazah culture, the important of communication skill and working environment. Lastly but not least is English. From all of this i just worried about english. i think i can speak a little bit in english but my weakness is i can't understand what other people speaking about. This is because of their slang or pronounce. I need to improve this skill quickly( learn fastly-Mr.Red1 motto).
i think that's all from me. Tq. _________________ Never Give Up, Never Surrender. |

hello all...
We (the 4 apprentices to be including me) arrived in front of the in-fusion office at around 10 min to 6 after getting lost around the megan avenue building for about 10 minutes. Luckily we arrived in time just for the ceo birthday treat held by the staffs and after that the session with mr red1 begins.
Lesson learnt...
I understand that regularly, there will be a session in the evening for the apprentices to review their work and discuss what they have done during the day. They also have to plan ahead their work so that they have a clear view of what is expected so that they can be prepare if any 'tsunami' occur. Then, they all will be commented by mr red1 or by the other senior staffs(i assume).
As we were invited to the session that day, mr red1 made it clear that he wanted us to be ready for the in-fusion working environment. He pointed out that the sourceforge forums and the red1.org forums are very important as it displays the deliverablity and visibility work of the in-fusion project progress. The deliverablity and visibility makes the work more measurible... it means that it can be measured by the others as to know that they really did a good job or not. and if the project measuribilty doesnt reach the standard expected... than people can comment on them and steps can be taken to improve their work. So i learnt it is very important to keep up with the forums and have a clear view of the project's progress so that we are not lost when our apprenticeship programmes begins.
Mr red1 also gave as lessons about malaysian graduates attitudes. what i understand about this is that many malaysian graduates are not as eager as the graduates in other countries. Not that they have to 'sell' themselves... actually they do, but they have to sell their best qualities and skills they obtained years in the university and in life. 'Show off' quality doesnt exist if they are really using the quality to improve themselves in a good way. Not just showing it off to everyone and doing nothing about it. In the end... the show offs will be in takuk lama jugak. ooopppsss malay word dh terkeluar...
This next lesson i learnt is very important. English language to be used by everyone in whatever they do. we have to practice english language while speaking, working, jogging, sleeping, eating and even think of english while doing nothing... No matter if we make mistakes and our toungue is twisted around. i think this will benefit us in the future as we can converse confidently with all kind of people. This lesson is a lesson that has to be practiced regularly as well as the communication skilsl and public speaking techniques.
Apart from that, punctuality and time management is also mentioned. It is important to schedule or plan ahead our work. Mr red1 also mentioned about being in the university project as we have already experience the campus life and have to probably have some clue about what the project is related to and heading.
My only concern when the session ended that day is that i do not have enough time to do research on all the topics arise in the forums. I do opened and read the forums everyday. Its just the matter of reading it deeply and thoroughly and understanding each facts correctly. I think i have to work on that. I sometimes get the picture of what the apprentices are doing by reading their statements in the forums. Its just the matter of involvement because i think that i am not yet involved in the project as i distribute nothing at the moment so i feel that it is not proper for me to intervene with the work. So thats why i seldom post anything because my posting will only pollute the forum if it have nothing important to do with the project disscuss.
Right now i am studying the 1-stop portal that julie has given us to study and maybe i can comment on that when i have completed my research.
In cosmopoint right now, my group is still working on the final project using the open source technoloies. We do face some problems here and hope to overcome them ASAP. My group is expected to present our project in 2 weeks time. So... do wish me luck!

As the next apprentice who will join the company soon, I felt lucky for been invited by mr red1 to the session. On the way to infusion my heart began pound with fear and worry. I felt like I was on the air for “The Apprentice” shows. It seems that I am going to enter the meeting room and meet Donald Trump and lastly get fire from him. Fortunately there was a birthday party for the CEO…Aha..makan free..What a quiet relief!
By looking at every face in the company increased my feeling of inferiority. How I’m going to cope up as apprentice? I had left far behind from the others…I realized that it was hard to get a job nowadays, even though you passed the exams with flying colors and got a degree with several DLs. If you get selected, you are in a probationary period. It is not necessarily a guarantee that the company will appoint you as a permanent staff unless you act very well.
During the session, I have learnt:
0.I know where the company is situated so that I wont be astray next time.
1.Be punctual and manage time wisely
2.Don’t be afraid and shy. Be confident and don’t think about failing
3.Be visible-read, respond and reply positively, as I did it only a few times
4.Be audible-speak, speak, and speak professionally so that every one will hear to your thoughts and opinions.
5.Read, write and speak in English…My truly deeply weaknesses
(40%read, 20%write, 10%speak)
6.Be a green-eyed monster to others in term of their strength to success, which inspires me to do well and not to give up easily.
7.Train myself to be sufficiently competent as an employee. Be a knowledgeable person.
8.Turn over a new leaf since I am a cave girl who has left far behind from the others
9.Show off your capabilities but not to “show-off” in a wrong way
10.Your previous success does not ensure your today’s achievement.
11. Be calm, be strong and be grateful and pray to the knower of all things.
And now it’s time to fly……................ |

i came a little bit late for Dr. Salmi's birthday party, last week. When i walked to the conference room i saw a new face in the company. i just recognize shikin and akmal only. this is the first time i saw haida and fieza. this is one of the good things to have a gathering for all the apprentices- get to know each other. suppose, im the one who need to invite u all to this meeting, not mr red1. maybe im so slow to take that action..
for this session, it is more focus on the apprentice who will be entering this company at the end of March. they have been given an exposure on working environment in isys, telecommuting, university projects, time management and the most important things is "visible, deliverable, and measurable".
our level of learning and working is measured by this 3 stages. at first i've passed the fist stage which is visibility and my journey is to achieve the second stage. but i've done a mistake that mr red1 really cannot accept it. INVISIBLE for one day..my level become same as everyone..i need to start over again. yea, i accept it because that was my fault.
ENGLISH...it's compulsory for everyone to speak in english. actually, i have started to speak in english since im in university till now. but the problem is im not consistent. although my english is gradually improve, but it is in the same speed..maybe it took 5 years to be fluent in english. so who wants to employed me?? so, rite now, i've started to speak in english every single words. i hope that everyone will take the initiative to work on it and we'll see the result..
As being the apprentice coordinator, i hope that all of u can cooperate with me. i will delegate some task to each of u, maybe on 1-Stop Portal. right now we are in progress to get all the information from ministry of higher education(MOHE).after we have all the information, then i will assign task to u all. _________________ ..:: Julie::.. |

Actually I have to admit here that neo English is quite good. Well, maybe better, much much better than me. Maybe you have the advantages in writing but have the lack of confidence in speaking.
I would have said that what mr red1 did to us are quite tough. But it is for our own good. We are a fresh graduate from local universities. Nowadays, fresh mean fresh. No experience, only qualification. Company turn down most of the fresh graduates maybe because they dont have the skill and the ability to speak, to express themselves and to sell themselves. Communication is a major skill that we have to improve. Speak and confidence will give a good impression to a company. Sometimes company just simply hire you because the way you make them impress. Well, that happen to my brother. I must admit that he has that skill since he was in school. He used to be in debate team, story telling competition and whatsoever [wonder why I didnt inherit it from him]. He got a job, right after he finish his study.
Taking and implementing the idea of tele-working from home is also a good idea. The only problem that we have to overcome now is to get use to it. Like mr red1 have said in the meeting before, refering to the issue that Shikin has brought up.. We must tackle the way of expressing our problem, make it visible so that someone can help us even without having to be in the same place to solve the problem. That is what most of the people from all over the world did by stating their problem, refering to mr red1 to solve their problem in compiere in other forum in this red1.org.
Problems are there to be solve. How we take it and solve it is the most important lesson.
'bersusah-susah dahulu, bersenang-senang kemudian'....
hope I can implement that.. Nothing is easy.. |

Akum, mr.Red1,
Do u have any comment for what we answer ur question here. I hope u can give any comments or critics for what we write here. For me, I need somebody like u to comment and critics to evaluate my writing. I feel encourage when u comments and critics what we writing especially ur comment in “Road To Marketable Skills” topic. After I read sebentar td that topic. I realize that u encourage me what I write there. Thank u for ur encouragement and I really appriciate it.
Well u know, I really like what u write here. This is because I don’t need to buy any motivate/skill book to know something to be success in ur life. Last but not least, thank u because accept me to practical training at ur company. Tq…bye. _________________ Never Give Up, Never Surrender. |

i dont want to comment too much cos i want u to expressi without looking forward to a favourable comment or criticism.
I know that helps, but what if one day i m not around? I want it to be self driven. I want u to answer all the posts here. There are many more where i commented but u did not comment.
Also in sourceforge, sambil selam sambil minum... u can do that while learning and writing. But i dont see that everywhere. Learn to practice writing the right words here and there, not just little simple stuff, but really study things so that u can reply back usefully. No more shallow non thinking stuff. If u do that, its visible that u are serious and u are doing work for ISYS even before joining.
U can see how overseas friends help us out like Abrar, Trifon, Rasmus and now Dale from US. Where are u? Where are our Malaysians that we want to train and make to become experts? Whats stopping u from learning up and responding if not better than them, half of them?
Chatting on the forum here is still tadika for us, but sad to say, its what many of u even afraid to do.
After that meeting that day... u still cannot manage your time to jump into sourceforge, there is no killer instinct... wanting to score that goal. Of course u think ppl let u just score the goal? Got it? ok... GIMME A HI-FIVE! |

Eclipse Lesson
In this lesson is… is all about programming using a eclipse and how to import Mecca2 into the workspace..for those who not coming last nite(apprentice)..u are missing 25% in your life..(read boatman story)
The lesson last nite is how we use the powerful tools such as eclipse to do some programming..it is not how u master some programming(java) it is how u interact with the code(very long and many module)..and how to modify, add and manage those code…of course for beginner like me and others apprentice it must difficult to understand it..when I sit behinds Mr Saipol I do not understand what is doing but what I know he is using eclipse to manage the codes to add and modify program and he is fast . Without using eclipse Mr Sam can solve bug in 30 minute but using these technologies he can solve it under 10 minute..
This is not what u learn..this how u unlearn and relearn such as new technologies for example eclipse…
For those who not coming these session..and having trouble with eclipse and mecca2
1) check your libraries and properties for mecca2 - missing libraries problem
2) check your server.xml in your tomcat – it must have mecca2 write in your server.xml
3) read the developer forum and post your problem at there so that everyone can know u problem and they can give response (Red1, Abrar and Mutha).
4) Also read the doc and files such as Posred, Callout, Eclipsefiles, Compiere Excersise and etc under red1.org/files. These document can help u much about how to import project and trobleshoot using eclipse.
5) And the most important is that u must explore the eclipse(godek2)..never afraid to learn something new… |
