We are about to prototype to a Malaysian University a Student Management System.
The reason why they wanted to look at Compiere is due to:
1) Its Open Source nature
2) Its powerful Web Interface
3) My latest partner in crime Laughing Uniti-IT which has done a similar system for two colleges in Malaysia.

Here is some basic specs as done by Uniti-IT : http://compiere.red1.org/StudentMgmt.pdf

And here is the demo script that i shall be presenting to them soon:

0) Startup Compiere
1) Login as Admin
2) Create a new course and its fee structure
3) Login as Student over the web Cool
4) Apply for the course
5) Admin inspect the application and apply selection criteria
6) Selected student gets offer letter
7) Student prints offer letter via the web
8.) Student receives Invoice and makes payment either via web or over the counter
9) Admin prints out aging analysis of due payments for management
10) Student inquires about Exams results via the Request interface
11) Student gets Exams Results
12) Exams Results acts as basis for approval to next course

This shall be a living demo script and i will modify it as demanded by the prospect. I shall also be configuring and doing some java codings for the above. All work from me will be published here.
The demo is quite soon as they wish to make a decision before the next 2005 student intake.

The plan now is to take an existing Java application for Student Management System and make it Open Source.
Then an integration works between it and the Compiere ERP. We hope the University accepts this basic proposal which we will provide them with the lowest cost of ownership possible together with training and handover to its internal IS team.

We have now found a new sponsor for such University apps, which is In-Fusion Solutions Sdn Bhd. They have formed a new outfit called In-Fusion Systems Sdn Bhd and has appointed me as the CTO to convert their own apps onto the Open plain.

That is now ongoing at http://sourceforge.net/projects/university/ .

We have a powerful in-house team, and a robust worldwide community in support.

We intend to migrate the present apps to a more advanced framework such as http://www.ofbiz.org/ .

If u wish to participate, pls, u re most welcome.
