What is the Usage of Organization "*"

Postby Derek » Mon May 23, 2011 9:19 pm

Is there any special usage of organization "*" ?
Or just a common organization named "*", like "HQ", "Fertilizer"......etc?

Hi Derek,

The organization '*' means 'all organizations'.
When you enter products or business partners you can decide whether they are related to (and so visible and useable by) only one organization like 'HQ' or to all organizations. Then you would use '*'

To complement the Dirk's information :

The "*" organization must be not used to transactions, but other organizations must be selected (HG, Ferilizer, etc).

Big thanks to you guys!

But do you know the background logic in code level?
Since I search '*' in source code, and found nothing useful to understand the logic.
I think I may fully understand the logic if I can touch relevant code.
Also I would like the share the complete logic about organization '*' if I find it out.

Derek,

The organization is represented by an integer value in the database (field AD_Org_ID).
The organization '*' is represented by the number 0 which means, depending on context, no organization or all organizations.

To see some examples you may search for code containing 'AD_Org_ID == 0' or 'AD_Org_ID != 0'.
