Adempiere's Logos and TradeMark

Postby red1 » Tue Sep 12, 2006 3:45 pm

As this is a Community thing, we wont spent money for lawyers, nor book trademarks. I m aware of the Linux case where someone booked Linux Inc and the community sued and lost and have to pay to get it.

Here we wont do such thing. This is the age of the Matrix. We have scrambling Logos and morphing trade names.

The project follows the community. I was aware of URL squatters and didnt make any effort to stop them. adempiere.net and adempiere.biz was taken one day later by a squatter it seems. It only shows we are hot.

We now have adempiere.org, adempiere.com and adempiereForge.org. Yep, soon that squatter will be flashing a few euros to squat on ..forge.net, etc, etc. Let him, we dont need that, probably Compiere? What for? We now define that business is not in the company.

Our logo for example is the second one in the list. GTR-33, my web artist in office sat with me to conjure that up. If someone whack a few more bucks and TM that, great, u make us hotter! Then we will have more fun conjuring up another logo, and another. So it wont be boring. I already got a few designs up in my head.

So is the slogans:

2nd choice: "Its The Community, Stupid!"

3rd choice: "Open Source IS The Community"

cmon.. community.. keep them coming. Each member, one slogan!

Hi!

i am terrible for slogans, but just a suggestion;

I think the important elements are the open spirit, the community (meaning there is not a single firm behind it) but also very important, the global character of the initiative, with people from bulgaria, malaysia, ireland, mexico, and so on, so this global character should be remarked somewhere either in the logo or in the slogan.

and thus i spoke ;)

I have to be honest I've been thinking about it for days and haven't come up with anything! :-( So it's not froma lack of tryingt I haven't posted ! :-)

a good samaritan ...
Hi Red1!

At the moment I'm not aligned to the Adempiere Project. But as I like
and thus promote free software
in general and moreover liked this one in particular I registered and
forwarded it to you.

Sincerely,
yours Christian

One updated and two new logos!

The free way for the enterprise

The ADempiere way forward

By the Bazaar, for the Enterprise

If anybody else wishes to make logos, please use a vector graphics package - i use Inkscape (http://www.inkscape.org/)- and solid colors, so as the logo to be scalable and easily reproducible in print and black and white ;-).

Waiting for comments and suggestions for the logos and the tag lines!

croo, you are right lets forget about my first proposition, lets try a new one:

I don't know which one is correct in English. Please accept my apologies.

Freely Doing Business
Doing Business Freely
Doing Freely Business

Well that's the idea!

best regards!

I would be careful about putting "free" in the slogan because big business don't really lice free. They do like flexible, quality, platform agnostic, no license cost - all of which are benefits of open source.

I just wonder - would it be possible to hope people might use Adempiere not because it was free - but because it was the best piece of software on the market?

With the open source model, the product will develop rapidly and respond to everyone's needs - there is a good chance that Adempiere will be the best product on the market.

Some organisations do choose software because it is open source or because it is free - but a better goal would be to get Adempiere in to every organisation because it is the best product.

Hi jaztek!

I know that in English free is different than in Spanish.

In Spanish the slogan could be:

Haciendo negocios libremente.

Like in Freedom not like in Free.

Which has a completely different meaning.

It has something to do with the old debate:

Software Libre vs Free Software

That's why people usually refers rather to the word "Libre" rather than Free.

Slogan

Postby globalqss » Thu Sep 14, 2006 12:32 pm

Some thoughts in my mind to get a decent slogan

Do you think that Compiere is going to make a share as proprietary?
I don't think so, they was trusting of business starting with crippled GPL license and inadvertently locking-in, but Adempiere full

Who of you are selling Compiere?
What is your primary strategy to convince customers of buying Compiere?
For me is:
---> NO LOCK-IN

But with Compiere NO LOCK-IN is past. Future is Adempiere!!!!

So, what is the power of Adempiere on business?

Now for the slogans, I don't like completely none of them, but giving you ideas to re-phrase in a good way, obviously if you agree with the idea:

- Freedom on your business software

- Your ERP without lock-in

- Free Software for Your Business

- Free Software for Business

__________

Maybe in future we're going to start a fight trying to convince customers that Compiere is a lock-in vendor.

And sure that Compiere will be trying to convince customers that Adempiere is viral because of their GPL license, and it will be better for business to have the "freedom" with a proprietary license.
__________

just a sugestion for the slogan

Postby tiberiu.atudorei » Thu Sep 14, 2006 3:06 pm

IMHO the slogan should be match several criteria:
- should be short
- easy to tanslate without any misundestandings in large circulations languages (EN, ES, DE, FR, IT, PT..)
- EXPLAIN in fact what is adempiere
- transmit the message that is oriented both to BUSSINEs and COMMUNITY
- transmit the message that is technological very flexible (archiecture, database independent..)
Unfortunatelly (?) the guys at Open for bussines made a damn good job in choosing their name and we don't want any confusion.
On the other hand the 'bussines' part is too general (OpenOffice is also for bussines, but it's not our focus here..)...and we don't want to forget the comunity...
so, in short, here it is:
ERP open for all / Open ERP for all
Open ERP for your bussines

On the other hand, where should an old veteran of Compiere enlist for Adempiere?

I like to try what the Irsh Croo, did again with his crafty english accent and eye for a good phrase coupled with Moyses' 'Free and Open' lyrics, Globalqss' "No Lock-In" Tiberiu's 'Keep It Short/Simple, Stupid', and Jaztek's important advice:
I just wonder - would it be possible to hope people might use Adempiere not because it was free - but because it was the best piece of software on the market?

How about:

OPEN IT! (the IT stands not just for Info Tech but in the literal sense 'it' as in something. Thus in that brand slogan, it is saying to another person, why dont u just OPEN IT! up and see? And i hope it carries the connotation of its terribly gud then. It has the allure of implying that it is top notch quality. And more so that we are challenging that its truly Open and that u ought to Open It and see for yourself.
Ok, lets see the TagLine again from 5 yards away:

ADempiere - Open it!

I like the "Its Just A Community, Nothing Personal" to remain as a web-site tag line.

I notice i m the only one using large bold letters, so ok, i get the message, "NO SCREAMING!"

Thanks for the endoresement Red1 ... but if I might critque myself :-)

I think Open IT is too generic .. and I take Tiberiu's point about length but I think it's too Short!?
My original suggestion was
Before you make up your mind - Open IT!
So it was aimed at potential customers ... Asking them to ... before you make up your mind and decided what to buy (or implement) open IT (that is your mind) to the idea of Open IT (that is Information Technology) ...
but I take people's point that it's a pun or trick of English so it most probably does not translate :-( it would be better to find somethnig that translates ...

But i think we are on the right lines .... no lockin, freedom, open. It's there ....
ADempiere - Open IT - and set your business free
nah! or maybe just the
set your business free
the key to opening your business
I'm thinking now for a business orientated slogan ... am I right?
I like the one we have for the community ....

Well I'm not 100% on any of those but perhaps they might spark something in someone else...

Colin
PS. red1 - I hadn't used larger fonts because I didn't notice the drop down allowing it until you mentioned it! :-)

hm..i c..

First, a point about the mind and advertising - Why someone said keep it short is because human memory is short. To elongates it needs triggers. Thats why "Coke" is the most expensive word.

Back to your crafty wordings. I think u getting closer then and if:

ADempiere - Open It And Be Free!

ADempiere - Its Free!

(probably the most idiot-proof phrase. As no one else make such a blantant claim. And the problem is that how do we make it sell - a paradox, but dont be surprise, somehow ppl understand and they pay for whats free. Marketing gurus made a fortune by twisting paradoxes and making black looks white - nay! black IS white!)

ADempiere - Open To Business

ADempiere - Business From The Source

(more sober and trying not to be cheeky, sumtin business ppl hate in adverts)

ADempiere - Together We Stay Open

(A communal feel, as well as assuring and calling each other partner, bonding and promising joint and mutual future)

btw, any song jinggler around? We need a song! "Togetherrr... We Stayyy .. Opennnn.."

Adempiere Logos

Postby mutha » Sat Sep 16, 2006 12:09 am

Thus .org still says community stuff, blogs, flames, way to go! and its famous tagline "Its Just A Community, Nothing Personal!",

and the .com is for serious business, "Open it!"
(emphasising that 'it' is lower caps as analysed in red1.org/forum).

And AdempiereForge is for all the projects with the tagline "Software For The World!"

My $100 with 99.98% discount.

Hello Guys'

Red1 what do you have for breakfast!

The above three Taglines are pretty good and creative for a Java developer.

I am delighted by the way the Adempiere community is forging ahead by this rate the community will have a release by the end of the year.

Keep it up fellas.
