Report & Process - prompting for confirmation

Postby neilg » Wed Jun 22, 2005 1:59 am

When you run a process from a button on a window in Compiere somtimes it prompts you for a confirmation and sometimes not. Why?

The key seems to be the 'description' field on the 'field' tab of Window, Tab & Field.

Compiere comes up with:'Do you want to start the process? - then your description text.

However if you leave the description text blank no prompt is made.

At first I thought it was the description on the Report & Process itself, but that's just because when you change it, it synchronizes with the Window, Tab & Field field.

Tested on 2.5.1g

Naming conventions

Postby neilg » Sat Jul 02, 2005 6:22 am

Using prefix of ZZ_ for all tables, column names, elements and processes. e.g. ZZ_MyTable, ZZ_MyField

For the window name - no prefix, just a user friendly name.
'My Friendly Window Name'

Code: Select all

(Applies to anything you can see in your context - See preferences/context)

Compiere splash screen stays up forever

Postby neilg » Mon Jul 11, 2005 3:08 pm

Scenario: You start Compiere and the splash screen stays up.... stays up.... stays u p....

Search on your hard drive for all files called Compiere.properties and remove them! Most likely a network setting that is causing and endless loop

Then try again

changing names of fields - how Compiere rolls down changes

Postby neilg » Mon Nov 28, 2005 6:00 pm

Changing the name of an Element pushes all the way down to the window. (-> All tables, -> All windows)

Changing the name just of the table field pushes all the way down to the window. (-> All windows)

So if you have a field on a window it is most productive to rename it in this order of preference: -

- Element
(If this is not practical as in the field 'Value', then:)
- Table field

NB: This refers to the 'name', not the columnname (although the same logic seems to apply for the fields columnname, name, description)

when you have an 'order by' expression or some other SQL compiere wants the following code:

Code: Select all
order by MyTable.MyField
