If you have tested more that one kind of reporting tools for Compiere what is your Comment?

Crystal reports on the client is the way to go

Postby neilg » Thu Jun 16, 2005 2:07 pm

I've used iReports before and integrated it with Compiere. As a person with extensive previous crystal reports experience the learning curve was steep and crystal would've been a better solution because the clients were using windows.

I've used iReports to design JasperReports and integrated with Compiere. If you want a lot of fancy reports and especially if the user needs to be involved - Crystal would've been faster.

Reports in Compiere are not extensive. Quote up front for 3rd party report writer.

Crystal reports lets you design reports in a fraction of the time of other solutions (NB: I haven't tested all mentioned). So if you need any developer reports use Jasper (IReport as front end for me) otherwise for ad-hoc, recommend crystal or another professional tool. You'll have to integrate it with Compiere.

By the way the more I've used iReport/Jasper the more I've come to enjoy the integration with Java. As a developer tool it really rocks. The documentation is worthwhile considering to buy.

The next tool I'd like to try is BIRT from the Eclipse project.

PS: But how do you integrate Crystal Reports ? And what about your non-windows clients?
